Inspired Print Solutions designed and created a sustainable exhibition stand for Kocher+Beck (K+B) to launch at Labelexpo 2023. The stand will be reused over several shows in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint
Traditionally, companies either rent a stand or build a bespoke stand for each event, which is not only cost-prohibitive and time-consuming but unsustainable. A study conducted by Ecobooth found that 100,000 tonnes of waste were burnt or sent to landfills from the UK events industry in just one year. Isla’s temperature check 2022-2023 estimated that £2m worth of timber alone was used once and thrown away in 127 events.
Design dynamics
The brief from K+B to IPS was to design, build, and install an exhibition stand with sustainability in mind.
Using the K+B strapline, Quality Built + Service Driven, Inspired Print Solutions developed a motor racing concept. The design featured racetrack-style arches, an F1 simulator in a K+B branded vehicle and the + brand element was given a starring role in the sustainable exhibition stand.
To present the concept, IPS created a digital model and a CAD cut physical scale model. Paul Romney, Director of Inspired Print Solutions said, “At IPS we are experts in 3D design and virtual reality. There are many advantages to digital design but sometimes a physical object added into the mix elevates the review process. When you can touch it, feel it and smell it, you can truly understand the concept.”
Sustainable materials
All materials are either FSC forestry accredited, recyclable, or manufactured from recyclable content. Fixtures not manufactured from sustainable materials will be repurposed for 2025 and 2027.
Everything on the stand will be reused excluding the carpet and floor vinyl and the Soyang fabric wall which is both recycled and fully recyclable. PALBOARD, which is made from partially recycled content and is 100% recyclable, is being used to line the walls of the stand. The innovative design allows for locking edges without the use of adhesive, which means the board is more easily reused.
Instead of giving out single-use plastic water bottles, K+B wanted a more sustainable option. IPS conceptualised and created the Hydration Stations: vintage petrol pump style water coolers for staff and visitors alike to ‘refuel’. This on-brand solution fit seamlessly into the design of the stand while increasing the eco credentials.
Results
A stunning, on brand and sustainable exhibition stand which received a great deal of attention and was used as the hero image for the article from labels and labeling magazine at the Labelexpo Europe 2023
Testimonial
Tracey McCarthy, Group Marketing Manager at K+B said, “The entire K+B family is taking seriously the issue of sustainability. We have all seen the reports on the news and must all play our part to reduce our impact on our planet. Combined with our dedicated group Project 1.5 team we have approached the build, design, and reuse of our Labelexpo stand in the most sustainable way possible and with the support of IPS we plan to improve on this each future show”.
K+B debuted the sustainable exhibition stand at Labelexpo Europe 2023 and will reuse it in 2025 and 2027. The stand is easily scalable for smaller exhibition spaces, allowing for even more flexibility.
