HELP!

This summer, Inspired Print Solutions (IPS) facilitated the launch of the urgent campaign by Acorns Children’s Hospice – Children’s Care Matters.

The campaign aims to save vital £2 million government funding as it faces the prospect of turning away a child in need for the first time in the charity’s 36-year history.

IPS supplied the charity printing services when they created and donated giant orange letters spelling out “HELP!” then transported the letters to well-known West Midlands landmarks so Acorns could gain public support for their Change.org petition

The letters

The letters, which span an impressive 5.5m wide by 1.5m tall together, were made from six layers of 25mm polystyrene, glued together using premium Flextec polymer adhesive.

The letters were cut to shape using IPS’s CNC machine and painted with a colour matched masonry paint to ensure durability in all weathers and to achieve the signature Acorns orange.

Each letter had a fabricated steel base and was secured with a vertical rod – the exclamation point had a 20mm clear acrylic rod.

IPS transported the letters to landmarks including the Bullring, Birmingham and the Saddler’s Centre, Walsall in the week commencing Monday 29th July for the campaign.

The response

Acorns Marketing Manager, Kate Butler said: “The successful impact of the launch of Children’s Care Matters was in no small part down to the incredible support of IPS. Their eye-catching HELP letters enabled us to send a powerful message across our region in a way that caught the attention of not just passersby during each of the public stunts, but key media and our social media audiences as we shared this urgent campaign online.

“As a direct result, we were able to collect more 2,000 of the over 10,000 signatures we presented to 10 Downing Streeting last month during that first week alone.

“But their support didn’t just stop at the creation of these impressive, bright Acorns orange letters. The team played a key role in getting them to various landmarks across Birmingham and Walsall, making logistics as easy as possible.

“We can’t thank them enough – we couldn’t have landed such an impactful campaign without the help and generosity of IPS.”

The client

In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 750 children across the West Midlands, and supported almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved. Uncertainty around the grant has come at a challenging time for Acorns, amid a background of rising costs and increasing demand for services.
